Not really, is not a limitation, it's a configuration,hierarchy nodes has a definition as not indexable by default, which means they cannot be used in the tree, as they can self-reference, creating an infinite loop. Take account that ontology nodes and hierarchy nodes define the tree itself (one for the Ontology tree, other for the Thesaurus tree).
Right now, ontology and hierarchy nodes needs to be linked using other tools in the field as the link or the search.
