Memory Friday meeting summary held on 28th March
We treated 2 main subjects in this meeting:
- Indexation of people and entities
Due to the huge number of people (especially in memory projects), it is not possible to list all the people in the onomastic thesaurus; even you can use them in indexation.
We agreed that the record of people and entities has to have some fields that right now are on the thesaurus record (as “change to”, for example).
The context tree is maintained in the onomastic thesaurus. Some people or entities may be “highlighted” and be shown in the thesaurus tree, but only a few selected and relevant ones.
Typologies in people have to be moved to a more relevant position, as it will acquire a more relevant use. In this subject, it is important to agree on typologies of people in similar projects (as Memory). We agreed to work together with Instituto Navarro de Memoria , Memorial Democratic and Direcció General de Memòria Democràtica in having a consensus of terms.
- User manuals
User manuals are a weakness of the community. We have tried several times to elaborate with no success.
They are difficult to create if we want to cover everything. A collaborative approach is necessary.
So, the proposal is to work carrying out small capsules of information, based on the previous attempts done before (even they have to be updated to v.6). The idea is to work resolving FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) and choosing the themes that take us time explaining. Alex will create the environment and send us the way to access. (this is already done when I am writing this summary).
