I summarize our last Memory friday meeting:
At the last Memory Friday meeting, we reviewed two topics: the family unit and the onomastic thesaurus.
Family Unit:
We agreed that we would initially simplify the family unit in terms of its use, so that, in the beginning, we would tend to use only one family unit.
We agreed that the role is very important and should not be left blank.
We reviewed the literals of the three sections: Parents, Children, and Others. We noted that these represent two distinct generations. Without arriving at an ideal solution, we decided to keep the following:
- First generation (aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents)
- Second generation (children, cousins)
- Others (family friends).
We decided that "Family Unit" would be the section's title in both the Person and menu sections.
Each project will determine whether it is sense to create a new person for ancestors (father, mother) from the data that is now in text field (father, mother) .
Onomastic Thesaurus:
As our second major topic, we addressed the issue of the onomastic thesaurus.
Since entities and people are indexable, maintaining the onomastic thesaurus seems inappropriate. However, we are interested in its structure.
We discussed the possibility of using a thematic thesaurus as the structure for the onomastic thesaurus. There was some debate, without reaching any agreement, and it was suggested that we should analyze the implications, as it could have a development cost. We saw that, if we wanted to maintain the onomastic thesaurus, we could create a thesaurus of thesauri, in the sense that different types of entries (thesaurus + entities, for example) would be combined in a single thesaurus, allowing for groupings as needed.
We agreed that we should proceed more slowly on this topic and take it step by step to consider all the implications.
I hope I do not forget anything.
Next Memory friday will be held next 27th February 2026 at 12 h
